As part of our worship, we frequently express our thankfulness and praise to God. This is why it is commonplace to hear people say "Amen!" and "Praise God!" throughout our church services. In addition to that, we often raise one hand to visibly show that we are in agreement with what is being sung or spoken. A hand raised in the air simply signifies our affirmation.

Listening to the preaching of God’s Word is vital to our souls, and we take this part of the service very seriously. We open our Bibles to follow along and often take notes as the pastor preaches. It is critical that we allow God to speak to us through the preaching and then apply what we have learned to our daily lives.

After the preaching, we sing a "song of invitation." During this song, anyone who would like to do so can go and pray at an old-fashioned altar in the front of our auditorium. For us, the altar is a special place where we pray to God and can obtain godly counseling from our pastor.

We believe it is essential that our church services are orchestrated by the Holy Spirit. Therefore, we do not use a fixed bulletin or program. No part of our service is ever ordered or directed by a committee or headquarters office. The “Head” of the Church of God is Jesus Christ; therefore, our "headquarters" is located in Heaven. While following a general format, we always leave it open for God to direct the service. Our pastor prays and studies to seek God’s will for the messages he brings forth to the congregation each week. Likewise, our teachers and singers do the same. Every part—from the Sunday School lessons to the songs and the preaching—has been inspired by God.

The Church of God is more than just our congregation here in Manassas, Virginia. There are congregations all across the globe! Unlike the countless man-made churches prevalent in our world today, the Church of God was established and built by Jesus Christ Himself centuries ago, in approximately AD 33. Therefore, He is the "Head" of the church and the "headquarters" is located in Heaven. In other words, God’s church is led and directed by Jesus Christ and not by any man-made organization. We don’t keep a Roll Book or vote on who can become a member. God makes those decisions, and they are recorded in Heaven! Salvation through Jesus Christ is the only way you can become a member of the Church of God.

Many "Christian" denominations trace their roots back to the 16th century and what is commonly referred to as the Protestant Reformation. As people began to stand against the Catholic Church, many man-made religions were formed. For example, we now have Lutherans from Martin Luther, Calvinists from John Calvin, and so on. However, the Church of God had already been established more than 1,400 years before this time period. Jesus Christ built His Church, the Church of God, in approximately AD 33 and named it after God the Father. This is why the Apostles refer to the "Church of God" multiple times throughout the New Testament.

In the Bible, the Book of Acts bears record of the thousands of souls God added to His Church daily as the Apostles went about preaching. Now, centuries later, that very same Church that Jesus built is still going strong! With the Word and the Holy Spirit, the Church of God has come through many tribulations and is still alive and well today!
