After losing my husband and then my mother just months later, my life changed overnight. In the midst of grief and uncertainty, God became my “very present help in trouble.” He carried me, gave me peace, and proved Himself faithful every step of the way.

Unexpected Loss

I have personally experienced the truth of this verse in my life. In 2022, I was happily married, living in a home my husband had built several years before, and life was going along well. Then, unexpectedly, my husband was killed in a terrible accident, and life changed overnight for me. I had a 14-year-old son, a mortgage payment and other expenses, my husband’s small business which I could not handle on my own, and no job.

God’s Help Through Loss

But I wasn’t helpless, or alone in my new circumstances. I still had God, and He never failed me. One by one, He worked miracles for me. Family and friends helped me with tasks I was unable to do myself, and my Church family was there for me the whole time.

And then, 3 months later, my Mom died. Her health had been failing for some time, so her death was not unexpected, but I was still deep in the grieving process for my husband. Once again, I felt God’s comfort sustaining me, carrying me through and keeping me from despair. I cannot even explain how I felt, but God’s presence through that whole experience was so real. Not once did I feel the slightest urge to turn to medication of any kind, nor sleeping pills, nor alcohol, nor any other “crutch” that many people turn to in difficult times. I didn’t NEED any of those things, because God carried me through without them.

A Testimony & Invitation

God has truly been good in my life, and He has been my “very present help in trouble” every time I have needed Him. Friend, if you don’t know God for yourself, I urge you to give your life to Him and experience for yourself that He can and will help you in your time of trouble. And His help is TRUE help, not just a temporary crutch that will leave you with a hangover or feelings of depression and despair when its effects wear off. “O taste, and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man that trusteth in Him!” (Psalm 34:8)

“When God opens your eyes to truth, it changes everything.”

I was a single mom active in a church, but I struggled with sin, even though I knew it separated me from God. Through conviction and a life-changing revival, God showed me that He has the power to help us overcome sin.
