God’s Perspective

While visiting the National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C., I saw a large wall mural about two stories high. It was a picture of the Earth taken from the Moon. It was quite interesting to see the Earth from this perspective, and I immediately began to consider the word “perspective.”

PERSPEC’TIVEn. [Latin perspicio; per and specio, to see.]

1. A glass through which objects are viewed. (Webster’s 1828 Dictionary)

2. A mental view or outlook. (The American Heritage Dictionary)

What’s Your Perspective?

Simply put, our perspective as humans is incredibly limited. Our perspective of the Earth doesn’t encompass the whole Earth. We usually view it as enormous, but when we look at it from an outside perspective (as they did from the Moon), it’s quite different. If we had a model of the Earth, like a globe, we could change our perspective by spinning it or we could hold it sideways or flip it upside down. But let’s look at the Earth from a completely different perspective than any of that – let’s look at our great big Earth from the perspective of our great big, wonderful God.

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”

Genesis 1:1

“Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?”

Isaiah 40:12

”For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:”

Colossians 1:16

God’s Word Puts Everything into Perspective

How exactly can we see the world from God’s perspective? It’s only through God’s Word. The Word of God allows us to see an amazing Creator, a magnificent and mighty God – a great big God who is in control of everything. He is the beginning and the end. When we look through His Word, it enables us to see things from the correct perspective – God’s perspective – instead of from our limited human viewpoint.

“The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: as for the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them.”

Psalm 89:11

“Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.”

Isaiah 40:26

“In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.”

Job 12:10

When we view the Earth from the Word of God, we see that it’s in God’s mighty hand. God‘s Word gives us a crystal-clear perspective so we can see things just as God sees them – we will see them right side up! We see God in everything because His Word brings it to scale. If we see God as holding the world in His hands, then we will see God as bigger than our problems, rather than our problems as bigger than our great God.

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”

Jeremiah 29:11

If we are seeing things from God’s perspective we will quickly realize His power, His strength, and His Will for our lives, as well as our rightful place in His plan.

Don’t Lose Sight of God’s Perspective

“Where there is no vision, the people perish:”

Proverbs 29:18

We can compare our vision to our perspective. Sadly, many people in our world today are losing sight of God’s perspective and creating their own views. As a result, the scale gets turned around, and they begin to see the creation as greater than the Creator. They see strength and power in the creation, but not in the Holy One who created it all. They lose their perspective of who God is, and who they are as individuals in His Creation.

“But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine…Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.”

Isaiah 43:1, 7

No matter where we are, or what we’re going through, we are God‘s creation. He formed us and even knows our names.

“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”

Romans 15:13

With the right perspective through God’s Word, we will find hope, comfort, joy, peace, and whatever else we need to sustain us throughout our lives. The Word even gives us God’s perspective on how to become a child of God – and the list goes on and on. We must go to the Word of God to gain an accurate perspective on all things that pertain to life. When we do, we will see God as – God – and everything else will fall into its proper place.
